The photos in this collection were taken in the Hasid community of Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Crown Heights is the global headquarters of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement known for it’s energetic outreach activities, particularly to non-observant Jews.
The Chabad-Lubavitz Hasids are embedded not only in mainstream Jewish life, but also in most sectors of public life. Relatively accessible to “outsiders”, the Hasids in Crown Heights were tolerant of my presence and invited me to attend and photograph various events including a wedding.
